Fr. Michael Komechak, O.S.B. Endowed Scholarship for Young Artists
Fr. Michael Komechak, O.S.B. had a passion for art and wanted to assist Benedictine students who shared that same passion. Fr. Michael worked very closely with the University’s art department and students who chose a major in fine arts or studio art. He recognized the importance of providing financial assistance specifically for our art students who otherwise might not be able to attend Benedictine University. The Fr. Michael Komechak, O.S.B. Endowed Scholarship for Young Artists was established in honor of Fr. Michael to maintain in perpetuity a scholarship program to financially assist and recognize full-time undergraduate students at Benedictine University who have declared Art as a major or minor. Your financial support of Fr. Michael’s endowed scholarship not only ensures his legacy will live on, but will also ensure that many aspiring young artists will be able to receive a Benedictine and Catholic education at an affordable cost.

As students, faculty, staff and visitors walk through any hall on the campus of Benedictine University, Fr. Michael Komechak’s life-long passion for art is obvious. He spent years collecting art from around the world and tirelessly displayed these paintings and portraits throughout the University hallways, residence halls and offices. Over the years, the University art collection has outgrown the available space on campus to properly display these fine pieces. It was Fr. Michael’s long-time wish to create a designated art gallery on campus – a central place for visitors, students and alumni to come and take in his wonderful collection and where students could grow their knowledge and understanding of artists from around the world. Because the creation of an art gallery was so important to Fr. Michael, he began raising money to fund his vision. Fr. Michael raised a considerable amount of financial support, but there is still a long way to go to raise the money needed to realize his vision. Your gift to the Fr. Michael Komechak, O.S.B. Art Gallery Fund will enable the University to fulfill his dream of a campus art gallery for the entire Benedictine community to enjoy.
