Benedictine ranks in top 30 percent in 2008 U.S. News & World Report rankings

Benedictine University ranks 37th among more than 140 schools classified as “Best Universities – Master’s” in the Midwest, according to the 2008 figures recently released by U.S. News & World Report. U.S. News & World Report ranks institutions using various criteria such as academic reputation, student retention, student-to-faculty ratio, percentage of freshman who ranked in the top 25 percent of their high school class, SAT/ACT percentile and per-student spending. “America’s Best Universities – Master’s” ranks more than 550 institutions within four geographical areas.
For 2008, U.S. News & World Report ranked Benedictine University as a Top School in the Midwest (and sixth in Illinois) for Master’s Universities, 13th in the Midwest (and sixth in Illinois) for Ethnic Diversity, as a Top Campus with the Most International Students (fifth in Illinois) and for Highest Proportion of Classes Under 20 Students (seventh in Illinois).
More than a quarter of Benedictine’s undergraduate students belong to an ethnic, religious or racial minority. Asian-Americans comprise the largest group of minority students at Benedictine University at 14 percent with African-Americans comprising 10 percent.
The publication also recognized Benedictine University for Economic Diversity, Highest Graduation Rate, Freshman Most Likely to Return and as a School that Awards the Most Need-Based Aid.
