Nutrition Department Awards

The Department Faculty determine potential recipients of Departmental Awards, based on the criteria described below. The faculty present these awards at the annual Nutrition Department Banquet. Not every award is conferred annually.

The Nutrition Recognition Awards are presented to undergraduate nutrition majors from sophomores to seniors, exhibiting superior academic achievement, demonstrated by a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5, and active participation in the field of Nutrition, demonstrated through Nutrition Club, volunteering, attending professional nutrition seminars, and/or work. Nutrition majors who demonstrate these criteria who are in attendance at the annual Nutrition Department banquet are presented with a Certificate of Recognition.

The Nutrition Achievement Award is presented to a student who exhibited exemplary academic achievement in courses and laboratories, demonstrated his or her ability as an emerging leader in the field, and actively participated in the field of nutrition. This is the highest award given to an undergraduate nutrition major who will not be graduating in that academic year.

The following awards are conferred to a few exceptional graduating seniors, based on the criteria described:

The Community Nutrition Service Award is presented to a graduating senior who has demonstrated consistent and dedicated volunteer participation in the nutrition field.

The Leadership in Nutrition Award is presented to a graduating senior who demonstrated exceptional emerging leadership abilities, including initiative, strong communication skills, creativity, optimistic attitude, and the expressed desire to make a positive difference.

The Nutrition Research Award is presented to a graduating senior who exhibits exceptional analytical skills and research knowledge while volunteering his/her talents for department research studies.

The Clinical Nutrition Award is presented to a graduating senior who has done exceptional work in demonstrating the knowledge and skills of medical nutrition therapy, shown by exhibiting outstanding analytical and assessment skills, including resourcefulness, initiative, and ability to integrate nutrition across the scientific disciplines.

The Outstanding Senior Nutritionist Award is the top award a nutrition major can receive from the Nutrition Department, and is presented annually to a graduating senior. This award is based on the combination of exemplary academic performance as demonstrated through achievement of excellence in the classroom and laboratory, emerging leadership abilities, strong communication skills, and the potential to be a competent and productive dietitian.
