Nutrition Department Awards
The Department Faculty
determine potential recipients of Departmental Awards, based on the criteria described below.
The faculty present these awards at the annual Nutrition Department Banquet. Not every award is conferred annually.
The Nutrition Recognition Awards are presented to undergraduate
nutrition majors from sophomores to seniors, exhibiting superior academic achievement,
demonstrated by a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5, and active participation in the field of Nutrition,
demonstrated through
Nutrition Club, volunteering, attending professional nutrition seminars, and/or work.
Nutrition majors who demonstrate these criteria who are in attendance at the annual Nutrition Department banquet
are presented with a Certificate of Recognition.
The Nutrition Achievement Award is presented to a student who exhibited exemplary academic
achievement in courses and laboratories, demonstrated his or her ability as an emerging leader in the field, and
actively participated in the field of nutrition. This is the highest award given to an undergraduate nutrition major
who will not be graduating in that academic year.
The following awards are conferred to a few exceptional graduating seniors, based on the criteria described:
The Community Nutrition Service Award is presented to a graduating senior who has demonstrated
consistent and dedicated volunteer participation in the nutrition field.
The Leadership in Nutrition Award is presented to a graduating senior who demonstrated
exceptional emerging leadership abilities, including initiative, strong communication skills, creativity,
optimistic attitude, and the expressed desire to make a positive difference.
The Nutrition Research Award is presented to a
graduating senior who exhibits exceptional analytical skills and
research knowledge while volunteering his/her talents for department
research studies.
The Clinical Nutrition Award is presented to
a graduating senior who has done exceptional work in demonstrating
the knowledge and skills of medical nutrition therapy, shown by
exhibiting outstanding analytical and assessment skills, including
resourcefulness, initiative, and ability to integrate nutrition
across the scientific disciplines.
The Outstanding Senior Nutritionist Award is the top award a nutrition major can receive from the
Nutrition Department, and is presented annually to a graduating senior. This award is based on the combination of
exemplary academic performance as demonstrated through achievement of excellence in the classroom and laboratory,
emerging leadership abilities, strong communication skills, and the potential to be a competent and productive dietitian.
