Dietetic Internship:
Curriculum Requirements

The Dietetic Internship (DI) practice experience is an integral component of two different Benedictine University master degree programs:

  • Master of Science in Nutrition and Wellness (M.S.N.W.)
  • Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) Community Nutrition Concentration (C.N.)

All dietetic interns must attend on a full-time basis. The course schedule enables completion of the required graduate courses and dietetic internship in 15 to 18 months, depending upon the master degree selected, number of concentrations, and progress on thesis. The M.S.N.W. program director assists students through advisement about course options, sequencing, and registration. For more detailed information about the master degree curriculum requirements and sample course sequences, refer to the program guides:

Please refer to the Course Descriptions for more information about each course. Upon review of transcripts and course descriptions submitted by each prospective intern, additional coursework in physiology, biochemistry, basic research, and/or writing for health professionals may be required prior to beginning this Dietetic Internship program. Before beginning his/her internship rotations, a dietetic intern must also complete:

  • All pre-work (assigned in the summer prior to the start of the dietetic internship program),
  • A general orientation,
  • All required medical, safety, and academic clearances, and
  • Earn a grade of a "B" or better in NTR 615 Medical Nutrition Therapy Advanced Concepts and Outcome Measurement .

Dietetic interns are evaluated frequently throughout the internship program. For more details about the evaluation policies and program completion requirements, visit: http://www.ben.edu/nutrition/dievaluation.html.
