M.S. Nutrition and Wellness:
Mission and Goals

Vision of the Future

The Nutrition Programs will be recognized at the community, state, national, and international level for their leadership in developing optimal teaching and learning within nutrition programs. The programs will prepare future nutritionists, registered dietitians, and nutrition managers to address important food and nutrition issues that impact the quality of life of people.

Mission Statement

The Masters Program in Nutrition and Wellness focuses on creating and maintaining a learning environment that encourages critical thinking, acquisition of comprehensive knowledge of the interrelationships of food, nutrition, and health, and the development of ongoing professional skills that are necessary for becoming outstanding health professionals.

Goals and Objectives

Learning Goals

Upon successful completion of the Master of Science in Nutrition and Wellness core courses, the student will:

  1. Integrate current concepts of nutrition and health to the assessment, intervention, and evaluation of individuals and groups across the life cycle.
  2. Apply critical thinking skills in the field.
  3. Conduct assessments of individuals and groups for preventative and therapeutic interventions.
  4. Create, deliver, and evaluate nutrition and wellness education, training, and counseling programs for individuals and groups across the life cycle.
  5. Conduct outcomes research, either as community-based research or wellness program evaluation.
