September 2015

Dear Parents,

It's wonderful to watch our students as they settle in to the University routine. They have been attending Quad Day, an event at which student groups and organizations recruit new members; the Community Resource Fair, at which University departments and other vendors share information about available resources; athletics events; and, of course, their classes. They've also been welcomed back by both faculty and staff members.

This e-newsletter is the first I will send this academic year. Each month, I will pack it full of dates, events and information to keep you apprised of campus happenings. Remember, as a family member of a Benedictine student, you automatically become a member of our Parent Association. My first call for parent volunteers will be for the Parent Phonathon to be held the evening of Thursday, October 8. Please contact me if you are able to volunteer for an hour. This is also an opportunity for parents to meet other Benedictine family members and enjoy a slice or two of pizza.

Please be sure to register for Family Weekend. The event will be held Friday-Sunday, October 2-4. You may have already received an invitation. If you have not, please click here  for more information or go to to register. I hope you can join us for a weekend of fun with the entire Benedictine community.

Welcome back from the New Student Advising Center

The fall semester has finally arrived. As advisors, we are ecstatic to have both incoming and returning students back on campus. We are reminding students to use all of our academic resources on campus, such as the Student Success Center, to make sure they start the semester off strong. Students can get assistance with academic work and other life skills that can help them become more organized and prepared for the fall semester. If your student is struggling to find their passion in life, then we recommend they talk with someone at the Career Development Center who can help guide them toward a profession in which they will excel. Visit or, or contact the Student Success Center at (630) 829-6340 or the Career Development Center at (630) 829-6040 for more information.

Advisors are available to assist students with any questions or concerns they may have during their transition to Benedictine University. For additional information, visit or call (630) 829-1120.

Tuition tips from the Office of Student Accounts

Tuition and fees are incurred at the time of registration. A “Statement of Account” is generated on the 15th of each month and mailed to the student’s billing, local, home or work address on file (in that order). This statement reflects only that activity which has taken place on your student account in the last billing cycle (similar to your checking/savings/credit card statements of account).

Students are encouraged to view their account information online using MyBenU. If you would like to be able to view your student’s account online, you will need your student’s BenCard number and password. As protected by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the student is financially responsible for his/her Benedictine account. However, students may grant permission for others to receive information regarding their account by completing the Authorization for Release of Confidential Information to Parent(s) Form. The form can be found online at, or on campus in the Office of the Registrar. The completed form may be mailed, dropped off or faxed to the Office of the Registrar at (630) 829-6663.

Payments are due no later than seven days after the first day of class. Failure to meet payment deadlines will result in a late payment fee of $100 and a financial hold placed on the student's account. Financial holds prevent future registration, release of transcript and diploma, and participation in graduation. If a student has not received a bill, they may contact Student Accounts at (630) 829-6503 or to determine the required amount due, or they may view their account online at

If you would like to set up a monthly payment plan for your out-of-pocket costs, you may do so through TuitionPay at or call (800) 635-0120. Single semester plans or annual plans (combining fall and spring costs) are interest-free and available for a small enrollment fee. Please note that you will continue to receive monthly billing statements from Benedictine University while enrolled in a payment plan through TuitionPay until your student account balance with Benedictine is paid in full.

All registered students receiving financial aid will receive a bright green envelope in the mail from Higher One with a debit card enclosed. If your student is expecting to receive a refund from financial aid funds or from an overpayment for the fall semester or anytime in the future, a refund selection must be made using the 16-digit debit card number or the PIN number enclosed in the letter. Your student is not required to open a OneAccount from Higher One, however, you MUST make a choice for your preferred method of receiving the refund (debit card, electronic transfer to another bank of your choice or paper check sent via mail). To learn more, visit For additional information, visit Student Accounts at or call (630) 829-6503.

Get involved in Campus Ministry

Welcome to a new year with the Benedictine University community. It is a great time to be an Eagle, and we have numerous opportunities for students to strengthen their faith, grow in community and learn more about who they are in Campus Ministry.

We have three retreats this fall, including the Koinonia Retreat, which is attended by a large number of our students. Students are also encouraged to consider participating in a local, national or international service opportunity. (We are currently planning a return trip to the Philippines with another group of students). As a Catholic Benedictine institution, we value our diversity and it is because of our Catholic faith that we welcome all. We take our charism of hospitality to heart and therefore have a number of interfaith dialogue events.

Our new initiative this year is the “BenUnited” program which highlights Campus Ministry with our connection to the New Student Advising Center, Office of Admissions and the Career Development Center, and our combined abilities to strengthen our students’ holistic Benedictine learning experience. Through the program, students are invited to reflect on how their service experiences, values and beliefs shape the career they are aspiring to have so that they may live a life of meaning and purpose.

For additional information, visit Campus Ministry at or contact us at or (630) 829-1310.
