Program Description - Disaster Management Certificate

The coursework for the Undergraduate Online Disaster Management Certificate Program is intended for degree completion toward a Bachelor of Arts in Management degree with a concentration in Disaster Management. To earn a certificate in Disaster Management a total of 18 hours (all related coursework) must be completed. Each of the six courses is three credit hours. However, courses can be taken independent of the certificate program to satisfy degree
completion requirements. Each certificate course is eight weeks in length.

Disaster Management for the First Responder entails aspects of emergency management from mitigation, through preparedness, response and recovery. The course covers emergency management needs to plan for disasters and persons who should be involved with planning and response. By the end of the course, students should have a solid understanding of the problems of dealing with disasters, the possibilities of reducing those problems to a workable level and real value of a functional emergency management operation.

Health Care Safety Aspects of Disaster Management-this undergraduate online certificate course is a derivative of MPH 658 that covers recommendations and procedure related to health care safety.

Certificate eligibility

Taking all 6 courses entitles a student to a Benedictine University Certificate in Disaster Management. All courses must be completed with a grad of 'C' or higher.

Application for Certificate

To request the Certificate, complete the Application for Graduation form. Specify the Certificate Area on the application, and submit application to Ben Central with appropriate Certificate fees.

Weekly class schedule

Generally, weekly classes begin on Monday morning at 7:00 when course materials are "opened or posted" for student viewing. Online submission of student assignments is at the instructor's discretion, and generally required by Wednesday at 12:00 noon. All weekly assignments are due no later than the following Monday (7 days later) at 7:00 am.

Class meeting times

These are online classes, and there are no traditional learning team-based meeting times. Students can sign-in at their own convenience.
