Weekend College Program – FAQ

Q: What is the Weekend College Program?
A: The Weekend College is a program that affords adult learners the opportunity to earn a degree by attending classes exclusively on weekends. The weekend format is based on a traditional curriculum and designed to provide a flexible program of study without compromising the intellectual wealth of coursework found in Benedictine University’s traditional degree programs. Weekend College courses are designed for highly motivated, well-prepared adult learners who possess the discipline to excel in a challenging, fast paced program.

Q: What is the mission?
A: The mission of this program is to provide a flexible accelerated degree program format that allows adult learners to complete their degree by attending classes exclusively on the weekends.

Q: What are the advantages of this program?
A:  Moser College understands that many adult professionals need flexible degree programs that complement their busy schedules. The degree programs offered through the Weekend College are conducive to the lifestyle of today’s busy professionals.   This unique program allows adult learners to pursue their educational goals without sacrificing family and personal obligations during the week. Adult learners in the Weekend College can complete their degree by attending classes exclusively on Saturday/Sunday. Courses which would normally take 16 weeks to complete in a traditional degree program can be completed in approximately two full weekends through the Weekend College.

Q:  Which degree programs does the Weekend College offer?
A: The Weekend College currently offers five degree programs:

  • Associate of Arts in Business Administration (A.A.B.A.)
  • Bachelor of Arts in Management (B.A.M.)
  • Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Leadership (B.A.O.L.)
  • Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.)
  • Master of Science in Leadership (M.S.L.)

Q: What are the eligibility requirements for the Weekend College?
A:  Eligibility requirements vary by degree program

  • A.A.B.A. requires proof of high school graduation or G.E.D. certificate; cumulative G.P.A. of 2.0 in prior coursework completed; minimum age of 22 years; minimum of two years work experience in business, industry, public service, or related employment
  • B.A.M./B.A.O.L. requires a minimum of 36 transferable semester credit hours with a cumulative G.P.A. of 2.0 for full admission; minimum of two years work experience in business, industry, public service, or related employment; minimum age of 22 years
  • M.B.A./M.S.L. requires a bachelor’s degree, conferred by a regionally accredited institute of higher education with a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 for full admission; a minimum of two years of significant work experience documented through a professional resume; two letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with the applicant’s professional work; applicants should be at least 23 years of age

Q: How often are classes held?
A:            Undergraduate classes are held every other weekend on Saturday and Sunday
                8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (Quantitative classes are held from 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.)

Graduate classes are held one weekend out of the month (approximately every 3rd weekend) on Saturday and Sunday
                8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Both the undergraduate and graduate programs require that students participate in a study group.

 Q: How long does it take to complete a Weekend College degree?
A: On average, it takes 24-36 months to complete the degree programs. The timeframe varies per student/degree.

 Q: Will credits earned at other colleges count toward my degree?
A:  Yes,contingent upon degree of interest, a limited number of appropriate credits earned from accredited institutions of higher education will transfer to Benedictine University.

 Q: Can I earn credit for what I have learned outside of the formal classroom setting?
A:  Yes, Moser College encourages students to take advantage of several means of obtaining credit for prior credit-level learning. This includes assessment of credit through the development of a prior-learning portfolio and training courses that have been reviewed by the American Council on Education.

$275 per credit hour
B.A.M./B.A.O.L
$470 per credit hour
M.B.A./M.S.L.
$385 per credit hour

Q: Can I afford going back to school?
A: Moser College recognizes that cost is an important factor to be considered when evaluating a degree program.  Adult students are classified as full-time students and have the option to finance their education with financial aid.  If financial assistance is needed, you must complete the application form for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) (Click here for free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)  Include Benedictine University's school code: 001767   

 Q: Where are the classes held?
A:  The classes are held at the Moser College of Adult and Professional Studies.  However, some classes may be held at offsite locations (i.e. corporate centers)

Q: Does the Weekend College offer online courses?
A: Online courses are available for select courses/degree programs

Q: How many people are in a learning team (cohort)?
A: The learning teams convene with a minimum of 14 students and maximum of 25.

Q: What is the admission process?
A: Complete the online application for admission http://www.ben.edu/admissions/adult/application.asp and request all transcripts from previously attended colleges be sent to Benedictine University’s admissions department. 

Q: How long is the admissions process?
A:  A number of variables determine how long it will take you to move from “applicant” to student.  The first step is to apply for the program by completing an online application.  (Click here to view the online application).  The next step is to complete your free financial aid package (Click here to apply for financial aid online).  An Admissions Counselor will then work with you to complete your file.  The average application process can take 4 to 6 weeks, but the time can be considerably shorter if you are proactive in ordering official transcripts and working closely with your admissions counselor.
