Benedictine schedules information session for alternative teacher certification program

An information session for Benedictine University’s Alternative Teacher Certification Program in Science and Mathematics will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 7 in Kindlon Hall Room 164.

The Alternative Teacher Certification Program in Science and Mathematics is specifically designed for individuals who have earned at least a bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or mathematics, possess five years of related work experience and are interested in teaching science or mathematics in middle school or high school.

The program consists of eight weeks of intensive educational pedagogy followed by one year
of supervised employment at a middle school or high school. The state of Illinois will grant certification to teach science or mathematics in grades 6-12 to those individuals who successfully complete the program.

More than 230 individuals have successfully completed the program and are teaching in suburban and Chicago public and private schools.
