According to recent figures from the Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics, many technology occupations will be at the leading edge of job growth in terms of both demand for specific occupations as well as sheer job volume for at least a decade.

Benedictine University’s new Bachelor of Business Administration in Business with Science Applications program is designed to provide students with the theoretical and practical background to tap into that growth in technology-based businesses.

“Students who choose to become Business with Science Applications majors at Benedictine will receive a thorough exposure to business and science principles and how they are applied to technology-based businesses important to growing our national and global economy,” said Deborah Hockman, Ph.D., program director.

Business with Science Applications majors will acquire a broad base of knowledge through the University’s core courses. They will learn the fundamentals of the economic system, principles of accounting and mathematics, and general knowledge in sociology, political science, psychology and ethics. Additionally, students will learn the fundamentals of science (biology, chemistry and physics).

Business with Science Applications majors will select one track from four high growth technology areas – biotechnology, informatics, environment or pharmaceuticals/allied health – and take track-specific courses along with their business and science core courses.

In addition, new specialization courses have been developed to capture the management tools of emerging technology-based businesses covering such topics as intellectual property protection, innovation and product development, ethics and quality, and project team development.

The Business with Science Applications program has been designed to prepare students for careers in such fields as product development and management, quality and process improvement, technical sales and marketing, account management, business analysis, project team management and supply chain management.

Students will also be prepared to pursue graduate studies in patent law for technology products, to seek a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.), or to earn a certificate in Project Management.
