  • Dr. Cochran gave a lecture titled “The Challenges of Catholic Political Life Today” at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19, 2005 in Scholl Hall Room 101. The talk examined four interrelated challenges posed by the encounter between Catholicism and contemporary American politics.

  • He gave another lecture at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2005 in Scholl 101 titled “Toward a Catholic Opposition” which examined how Catholicism can develop and articulate a more effective critical voice in American politics.

Dr. Cochran earned a doctorate in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland at College Park.He is coauthor of the book Catholics, Politics, & Public Policy: Beyond Left and Right (Orbis, 2003), which won second place in the educational book category of the Catholic Press Association’s 2004 National Book Awards. In addition to religion and politics, his other research interests include race and ethnicity in American politics, modern political thought, and pacifism and just war theory.
