About the Institute
Health embodies the body and the mind. It encompasses our mental well-being, physical
and nutritional status, and level of fitness.
A wide scope of health concerns are examined throughout the
Benedictine University academic
program curricula,
including clinical exercise physiology, clinical psychology,
health administration, health science,
nursing, nutrition, psychology, public health, social work, and sociology.
Internships complement learned theory through
discipline specific supervised
practice. Although most of these offerings examine the health needs
of adults, Benedictine University offers courses, program curricula, and internships that
focus on the unique needs of the youth, elderly,
and diverse populations, including
women. In some instances course coverage spans the entire life cycle from infancy to
elderly. For more information on these unique populations, visit the curriculum area of this web site.
The Institute for Intergenerational Health functions to faciliate interdisciplinary
communication among professionals in health fields and promotes community outreach.
The Institute for Intergenerational Health, as well as
health-related academic programs and clubs, coordinate community
events, such as seminars and fairs, to provide
educational venues for our surrounding
communities. Other events are philanthropic, designed to benefit worthy causes including
medical clinics, food pantries, and cancer research. Additionally,
health services
are available to the community in the areas of community assessment and nutrition
counseling.
