Research Interests

The research interests of the Nutrition Department span the life cycle, from children through the elderly. Interests lie primarily in the areas of assessing nutritional status and examining the effectiveness of nutrition education interventions. The department was a recipient of a 3M Vision Grant, funding nutrition assessment and education of the elderly in DuPage county. A grant from the Central DuPage Health Foundation provided support for education of health care professionals on a spectrum of health care issues facing the elderly, including poor nutritional status. Most recently, a joint General Mills Foundation and American Dietetic Association Foundation Youth and Fitness grant supported coordination, implementation, and outcomes assessment of a nutrition camp for children in the West Chicago School district. Members of the Nutrition Department and graduate students annually present findings of original research at the national American Dietetic Association Food and Nutrition Conference and Exhibition.
