Department of Psychology and Sociology

One of the most popular departments on the Benedictine University campus is Psychology/Sociology. A student may pursue one of five majors in the department including a major in Psychology (traditional program), Sociology (traditional program), Organizational Leadership (adult/weekend accelerated program) and Psychology (adult/weekend accelerated program). They may also pursue a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology (MCP) degree. Each major is research bases and designed so that the student may obtain a degree tailored to fit their future goals. The department also provides several minors for students who may be pursuing a degree in an area other than Psychology/Sociology. Minors include Psychology, Sociology, Social Work and Life Span Development. University students may also enhance a major by selecting a concentration in Criminal Justice, Social Work or Life Span Development.

The Master of Science in Clinical Psychology degree provides extensive coursework, clinical experience and a variety of theoretical orientations for the student desiring a career in clinical psychology. The program provides all the courses the state of Illinois requires to take the Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) examination or the Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) examination. A student wishing to obtain the Master of Science in Clinical Psychology degree, may select, if they wish, a subspecialty track in Child Psychology or a subspecialty track in Marriage and Family Psychology.
