What is distinctive about the Religious Studies Department at Benedictine University?

The first rate faculty at Benedictine University includes 2 full time professors, Dr. John Kloos and Father Philip Timko, and 3 Adjunct Professors including a Jewish Rabbi, Rabbi Michal Mendelsohn, a Muslim scholar, Imanul Haq, and a Sister of the Benedictine Order, Sister Karen Nykiel.

Students are given the unique opportunity to study all major religious traditions, including non-western ones. This interdisciplinary and ecumenical approach to the study of religious ideas and institutions in today's world enhances the depth of knowledge in your chosen field of study.

Individual courses should lead students to reflect on the ultimate meaning and purpose of life from the perspective of the great religious traditions. Religious Studies courses will help students clarify their own values and commitments. By pursuing a Religious Studies minor, student will be better prepared for advanced study in the ministry or in education.

Benedictine University offers two Religious Studies minors: one in Christianity, with emphasis on the Catholic tradition; the other in World Religions.
