Welcome to Benedictine University's School of Education and Health Services.
We offer both graduate and undergraduate programs. As an undergraduate,
a student may opt to major in special education (leading to the LBS1 certificate),
elementary education or eight areas of secondary education (biology, business,
chemistry, English, math, physics, social science or Spanish), health
administration, nursing or nutrition.
At the graduate level, our programs include a Master of Education (M.Ed.),
with on-campus programs in Leadership and Administration (Type 75), Curriculum
and Instruction or Special Education. Cohort/Field-Based options include
Leadership and Administration (Type 75), Curriculum and Technology-Integrated
Instruction, or Reading/Literacy (Reading Specialist Certification). The
Master of Arts in Education (M.A.Ed.-on campus) offers programs with certification
in Elementary Education, Special Education and Secondary Education. Health
Services graduate programs include Leadership and Administration, Nutrition
and Wellness (M.S.N.W.) and Public Health (M.P.H.).
The Alternative Certification Program, in cooperation with the Illinois
Math and Science Academy, offers an accelerated program for science and
mathematics professionals seeking a teaching career. The program is 12
months in duration and includes a yearlong paid internship in a middle
school or high school. Successful completion of the Alternate Certification
Program leads of Illinois state certification in Secondary Education (Type
09), and 24 hours of graduate course credit toward a master's degree in
education at Benedictine University.
