Customs & Immigration Information
The United States Embassy (or other diplomatic post) working
with you will arrange for the issuance of your visa which will
be placed in your passport. They will also give you some documents
to give to the inspection officials when you arrive in the United
States as well as other documents to keep in your passport during
your stay. It is important that you do not loose any of these
documents.
When you arrive in the United States, you will be screened by
officials from U. S. Customs and
Border Protection. Rules for foreign visitors are found at
http://www.customs.gov/xp/cgov/travel/id_visa/.
Under the US-VISIT
program, foreign visitors traveling to the U.S. have their
two index fingers scanned and a digital photograph taken to match
and authenticate their travel documents at the port of entry.
Sometimes visitors are sent from the regular inspection lane to
an office for an interview; do not be alarmed by this. It is also
possible that when being admitted into the United States, you
will be instructed to report for an in-country interview with
U. S. Immigration, Customs
Enforcement Agency. If you are asked to report for such an
interview, please let a member of the Institute's staff know so
that we may facilitate your interview.
One of the Academic and Administrative directors, along with
two student mentors from Benedictine University, will be present
at Dulles International Airport upon your arrival to help with
any problems that might arise in customs and immigration.
