MSDN Library

Product Information

The MSDN Library contains more than 1.8 GB of articles, documentation, resource kits, and code samples, which are simply essential for any serious developer. This reference is integrated with Visual Studio .NET. The documentation on the .NET Framework class library, the Win 32® API, and the specification for Visual C# .NET and Visual Basic .NET is invaluable.

In Visual Studio .NET, the Dynamic Help window presents content from the MSDN Library that is relevant to the code or the task at hand. This permits quick access to documentation.

System Requirements
  • PC with a Pentium 100 MHz or higher processor
  • Microsoft Windows 98 or later or Microsoft Windows NT® 4.0 with Service Pack 6 or later
  • 32 MB or RAM minimum
  • 450 MB of available hard-disk space minimum; 1.8 GB for full installation

Software Installation

IMPORTANT: We strongly recommend closing all open applications and windows and disabling background applications before installing any of the software.

If you have already installed Visual Studio 6.0 or Visual Studio .NET, you may want to remove any older versions of the MSDN Library to increase available disk space. You can uninstall older versions through the Add/Remove Programs control panel. Visual Studio .NET installs a reduced version of the MSDN Library, and you may want to run its installer to remove the documentation.

  1. Insert MSDN Library Disc 1 into the CD-ROM drive. The Setup program should start automatically. If it does not, double-click SETUP.EXE in the CD-ROM directory.
  2. Choose the Help collections you wish to install. We recommend that you install the Help collections you will frequently use to reduce the need for the MSDN Library discs.
  3. Follow the instructions given by the Setup Wizard.

SPECIAL NOTE: Because this reference can consume up to 1.8 GB of hard-disk space, the Department of Computer Science & Information Systems is permitted to give students a copy of the three MSDN Library disks. However, the student must supply the Site Administrator with three CD-R disks for copying. This does not apply to any other MSDNAA software disks.
