Visual Studio 6.0 Professional

Product Information

Visual Studio 6.0 offers an integrated development environment like its successor Visual Studio .NET. The primary components are Visual Basic 6.0 and Visual C++ 6.0. Microsoft will continue to support this development studio for several more years, but because the .NET platform has many advantages, we encourage you to consider moving to Visual Studio .NET.

System Requirements

  • PC with a Pentium 90 MHz or higher processor
  • Windows 95 or later or Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or later
  • 32 MB of RAM for Windows 2000 and Windows NT 4.0
  • 290 MB of available hard-disk space minimum

Software Installation

IMPORTANT: We strongly recommend closing all open applications and windows and
disabling background applications before installing any of the software
.

You should install the latest Windows Service Pack before installing Visual Studio 6.0.

  1. Insert the Visual Studio 6.0 Disk 1 in the CD-ROM drive. The Setup program should start automatically. If it does not, double-click SETUP.EXE in the CD-ROM directory.
  2. Follow the instructions given by the Setup Wizard.

SERVICE PACK: You must install Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 5. It is particularly important if you wish to run Visual Studio on Window XP Professional.

NOTE: The latest MSDN Library release does not integrate with Visual Studio 6.0 products but can be installed and viewed as a stand-alone reference.
