For decades the University has had the policy of using a committee to write letters of recommendation for medical, dental, occupational therapy, optometry, pharmacy (4 yr), physical therapy, podiatry and veterinary medicine professional schools.

To carry out this work the committee meets two times each year, in October and February, to interview applicants. Each committee member interviews each student for approximately 30-45 minutes to assess his or her probability of success in a professional school. The committee then meets to discuss and evaluate the student. A letter is prepared on the basis of input from both the student and the faculty members. Upon the request of the student, this letter is sent to the professional schools of their choice.

All students seeking admission to professional schools should plan to interview with the members of this committee during their junior year or at the beginning of their senior year. If you are considering going through the Recommendations Committee, please read the "Requirements" section to make sure you qualify. All of the items listed contain valuable information. It is to your advantage to read through all of them!
