All of the full-time faculty members in the department hold a terminal degree in their field. The Howard Hughes Medical Institute has three times awarded science education and research grants to the department. Benedictine University has an excellent placement record for graduates applying to medical, dental and other professional schools.

You may have the opportunity to participate in research with faculty in the department or you may want to gain a practicum experience within one of the outstanding medical facilities in the Chicago area. With the increasing demand for qualified clinical laboratory scientists and environmental scientists, our challenging yet flexible academic preparation will prepare you to enter professional or graduate programs, as well as find permanent employment after graduation.

The Master of Science in Clinical Exercise Physiology is academically demanding and requires considerable commitment on the part of the student. Highly motivated students will build a sound scientific knowledge base about exercise physiology and develop the skills to work in the prevention of cardiovascular disease and in the rehabilitation of those who have experienced cardiovascular problems.

The Master of Science in Science Content & Process is a new degree program in 2006. Benedictine University, in partnership with Brookfield Zoo, Fermilab, the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, The Morton Arboretum, and the Golden Apple Foundation, has developed a Master of Science degree in Science Content and Process that provides K-8 teachers and other science educators integrated content knowledge in general science utilizing the resources of the local scientific community. Participants will use the pedagogy of inquiry-based learning and knowledge of technology to create an effective teaching/learning environment for science education. This program is intended for those teachers who want to increase their science knowledge and confidence in science teaching.
