The Mathematics department serves you, the student, several ways. We provide
coursework to help you develop the mathematics skills that are of use in your
chosen field of study as well as advanced topics in higher-level mathematics.
We also promote awareness of mathematics through speakers, bulletin boards,
and departmental awards, and develop awareness of mathematics-related careers
through networking with alumni. You may major or minor in mathematics, with
secondary education certification available to majors. At Benedictine University
we employ a variety of technological tools to enhance the learning experience.
As a physics major, you will combine your acquired knowledge of the physical
sciences with the broader background of a liberal education to gain both scientific
expertise and an awareness of the impact of science and technology on social
issues. You will have much freedom (with advice from your faculty advisor) in
choosing courses consistent with your personal interests and goals, such as
high school teaching, engineering, law, medicine or advanced physics research.
The Department of Computer Science and Information Systems offers two undergraduate
degrees, a B.S. degree in Computer Science and a B.S. degree in Computer Information
Systems. The programs allow the student to develop a solid foundation in problem
solving, algorithm development, the structuring of data, and computer organization.
Computer Science majors concentrate on the theory and applications of computers,
whereas, Information Systems majors concentrate on the application of computers
to business.
The Computer Science and Information Systems Department of Benedictine University
participates in the MSDN Academic Alliance Program. See the Computer Science
and Information Systems Home page, linked above, for a detailed description
of this program.
