The Points System

In order to be considered to be an active member of AMSA, one has to obtain 14 points throughout the course of the semester. Points are awarded when you participate in various events planned by the organization. The requirements for each semester along with the breakdown of points for each event are listed below. Feel free to shoot us an e-mail if you want to find out how many points you've accumulated so far.

  1. A minimum of attendance of one volunteer event and two speakers are required for active membership.

  2. Volunteer events (4 points): there are two types of volunteer events:

    1. On-campus – this type of event takes place within the Benedictine premises and one must participate actively (seen and documented by a board member) in the event. These are events that pre-med AMSA either organizes or designates as an on-campus volunteer activity.

    2. Off-campus – this type of event take place outside the Benedictine premises and one must participate actively (seen and documented by a board member) in the event.

      1. Volunteer activities organized by pre-med AMSA are the only activities that qualify for volunteer points. Any other type of volunteering (i.e. hospitals or nursing homes) does not meet the criteria for off-campus volunteer events because valid documentation may not be legitimate.

      2. Those who agree will organize transportation to these events and work out expenses. Expenses are compensated by the AMSA organization. Reimbursement will only occur through proper documentation (i.e. receipt).

  3. Speakers (3 points):

    1. Attendance is required throughout the entire speech. It will be taken at both the start and the finish of the speaker. Members can only sign in for themselves and not for anybody else. A board member will oversee both sheets.

    2. Disrespect will not be tolerated; no points will be given to any who are disruptive.

    3. Inability to sign in on the first or second sheet (which implies loss of points) may be appealed via email to the AMSA account for consideration of full points by the board for that speaker. A confirmatory reply will be sent to that member.

    4. Only those who are signed in on both sheets will be given full points for that specific speaker event.

  4. Miscellaneous Events (amount of points to be determined by the board):

    1. These events include socials, movie nights, committee participation, etc.

    2. Point values must be announced before the actual event and cannot be altered. Except under the circumstances that a member does not fulfill the requirements of the event or position.

  5. Adolescent Substance Abuse Program (ASAP) Active Presenter

    1. These events include socials, movie nights, committee participation, etc.
