Rocco Memorial Scholarship seeks
to help women in the workforce
By Maniza Azam
Guest Writer
This year the Christine Frances
Rocco Memorial Endowed Scholarship will be available to those
at Benedictine University who are of Italian heritage and
at least 28 years old. Possible recipients of this scholarship
must be studying English, Education or Business at either
location offered by Benedictine University. These include
the main campus in Lisle or another one at the University’s
Moser College of Adult and Professional studies located in
Naperville. This campus offers late classes for working adults.
This scholarship is in honor of Christine
Frances Rocco, a successful business woman who obtained a
degree from Benedictine University, known then as Illinois
Benedictine College, in 1974. She served in the human resources
departments of various corporations such as Victor Gasket
Manufacturing Company, Kropp Forge Company, Sunbeam Corporation
and Chicago Specialty Company.
This scholarship, which will be announced on the 80th anniversary
of Rocco’s birth on Sept. 16, 1927, acknowledges the
struggles that women who return to school after facing some
time must face. The reasons that forced these women to delay
their college education can vary from personal to practical.
Rocco herself was a full time adult when pursuing her college
education.
If you are interested in this scholarship, or just want more
information, you could contact Denise West, Director of University
Relations at 630-829-6027 or visit Benedictine’s Web
site and look at scholarships under English, Education or
Business.
