The Conclusion of "More than a Dance" from pg 12
By Katherine Braun
Staff Writer

"Don't worry about them," Chad quietly told her as he placed his hands tentatively on her waist and shoulder. "Let's enjoy ourselves." He could feel her shoulder muscles partially loosen from their tense and defensive state.. Very lightly and cautiously Samantha positioned her own neatly manicured pink fingernails and hands on Chad's arms. Then, they started to dance- no, they started to float through the air and gracefully glide as if they were in an ice rink. Both dancers soon forgot about their surroundings and the ignorantly pointing fingers they had been subjected to minutes ago. Instead, they built off of one another¢s apparent skill and passion for dancing, creating a heart pounding energy and chemistry between them. When the song finally ended, they abruptly broke apart and stepped back in awe. Panting, Chad looked up at Samantha's bent head and whispered,

"I never danced like that before." Gingerly, Samantha raised her head and, for the first time that night, her deep, meaningful amber eyes connected with Chad¢s understanding green ones.

"Me neither," she whispered back. Then, as if she was Cinderella and the clock had just struck midnight, she quickly raced for the exit. In his shocked state it took Chad a moment to realize what had just happened, but, when he did, he went racing for the gym door after her. He was too late: she had already disappeared.

Slowly but surely over the next few months following the dance, Samantha started to open up. Her shell of shyness cracked and broke up, piece by piece. As it did, Samantha's classmates started to discover how wrong they had been about her. There was a completely different and delightful individual under the coating that once hid Samantha. She was insightful, understanding, compassionate, and even energetic and talkative when given the chance. It took a lot of courage for Samantha to burst the protective bubble shielding her from the world; yet, to this day, she claims she could have never done it without the help of her new boyfriend: Chad.
