Research Assistant
Responsibilities:
Provides assistance with survey research projects that involve understanding different audience needs, exploring guest satisfaction, and assessing guests’ reactions to special exhibits.
Primary project tasks will include preparing quantitative and qualitative data to be analyzed and processed, developing statistical programs using SPSS syntax, importing/exporting data files between SPSS and other software packages, manipulating and displaying data using Excel formulas, macros, filters, and/or pivot tables, and conducting various statistical analyses including advanced techniques such as multiple regression. The assistant data analyst may also aid in data entry and help with other aspects of ongoing research projects.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or Computer Science or related field desired. Minimum two years relevant college coursework towards a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics/statistics or computer science/information technology required. Subject areas in psychology, sociology, or market research also desired. Programming skills in SQL, Visual Basic/VBA, HTML, Java/JavaScript, or SPSS Script a plus, but not required. Strong quantitative skills and the ability to effectively work with cross-disciplinary teams required. Creative problem-solving and good interpersonal skills required. Minimum two years of experience using SPSS syntax desired. Minimum two years of experience using and MS Access and Excel required. Minimum two years of experience working in the social sciences or a market research/business environment required. Spanish fluency a plus, but not required. This position contributes to the success of the Chicago Zoological Society by producing and maintaining signage and related graphics to facilitate an exceptional guest experience.
