Electrical Operator I
Responsibilities:
Attends to, operates and cleans electrical control equipment at a sewage treatment plant or pumping station.
Qualifications: Requirements must be met by November 22, 2009:
1. Graduation from high school or GED. One year of experience in electrical operations, electrical power distribution or commercial/ industrial electrical maintenance. Substitution: College or post high school technical training in electrical or electronic technology, electrical maintenance or a closely related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year for year basis.
2. Domiciled within the boundaries of the District within 6 months of successful completion of probation.
Salary: $38.56 per hour

1. Applications may be obtained from the Employment Service Office of the District by phoning (312) 751-5100 or by visiting the District’s web site at www.mwrd.org. The filing period for this examination will be from Friday, September 25, 2009 through Friday, October 23, 2009. Completed applications must be filed by one of the following methods:
a. Delivered to the Employment Service Office, weekdays from 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from September 18, 2009 through October 23, 2009.
Sent by mail to the Employment Service Office, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District, First Floor, 100 East Erie Street, Chicago, IL 60611. Applications sent by mail must bear a postmark no earlier than September 25, 2009 and no later than October 23, 2009.
It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that the application form is completed and submitted in a timely manner by one of the methods described above. Descriptions and dates of education and experience should be very clear so that it is understood exactly how the applicant meets the minimum requirements.
2. All applicants will be advised in writing if they have been admitted to the examination process. The written test will be administered on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at J. Sterling Morton West High School 2400 S Home, Berwyn, IL. Candidates should report at 9:00 a.m. with the approved admission letter and a driver's license or other form of photo identification. Candidates may bring a cordless, quiet calculator for use during the test. No books, study guides, cell phones, PDAs, laptops or other aids will be allowed.
The Examination:
Will consist of a written test weighted 100%. The minimum passing score on the written test will be 70% unless determined otherwise by the Director of HR. Candidates must achieve a passing score to have their names laced on the eligible list. The written test will assess candidates' knowledge, skill and ability in areas such as the function of electrical circuit components; schematics, one line diagrams, and blueprints; troubleshooting complex electrical equipment; operating characteristics of motors, pumps and exciters; reading meters and gauge's; safety; interpreting charts and graphs; and reading comprehension of technical electrical material.

Salary: $40.47 per hour

Play Program Facilitator - Conservation, Education, and Training
Responsibilities:
This position contributes to the success of the Chicago Zoological Society by providing innovative nature play programs for children and families. Under the guidance of Play Program Supervisors, responsible for development of and facilitation of play programs, settings, and experiences in the Hamill Family Play Zoo, as well as in other Chicago Zoological Society events and programs. Under the guidance of Play Program Supervisors: Facilitates play with children, aged birth-10, including holding live animals, in both indoor and outdoor settings, as assigned. Responsible for the daily care of equipment, property, play program materials, and play settings, including but not limited to: daily set-up, clean-up, inventory, and proper use of all equipment and property. Creates, develops, and implements play programs and developmentally appropriate learning experiences for children, aged birth-10, and their families at Hamill Family Play Zoo. Creates, develops, and implements developmentally appropriate learning experiences and programs, with an emphasis on nature play for children aged birth-10 and their families for the Education Department Subscription Programs, Chicago Zoological Society Special Events, and other programs as requested by the Senior Manager of Learning Experiences. Incorporates knowledge of Chicago Zoological Society, its mission and zoo-wide operations into daily job responsibilities. Becomes familiar with and follows Society policies and procedures. Provides guidance to adult and youth volunteers as directed. Attends meetings and training sessions as assigned. Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts, Science, Fine Arts, Drama, Early Childhood Education, Environmental Education, or related field is preferred. Basic computer literacy required. Computer proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel preferred. Minimum two years experience in any of the following areas are required: facilitation of play, art, drama, music, or other creative activities; working with and/or supervising adult and youth volunteers; and/or early childhood education or other educational and/or recreational experience with children aged birth-10. Must be able to work with and handle live animals including small mammals, herps, birds, and invertebrates. Experience in a zoo, aquarium, museum, nature center, art studio environment, or early childhood classroom required. A genuine interest in nature, animals, and children. Must be able to accommodate a flexible schedule with rotating days, including regular weekends, holidays and evening work as needed. Must be able to work in outdoor and indoor work settings in a variety of weather conditions. Willingness to learn play facilitation skills. Excellent customer service skills and/or demonstrated ability to work with the public effectively in both high and low visitor attendance conditions. Strong ability to communicate effectively with children of diverse background aged birth-10 and their caregivers. Must be able to read, write and speak the English language proficiently. Creative skills/abilities such as musician, actor, dancer, artist, gardener, farmer, naturalist, craftsman, costumer designer/seamstress or other skills relevant to the exhibit experience are a plus. Must represent the Society in a courteous, professional manner at all times. Valid driver’s license required. Illinois residents must possess a valid Illinois license within 90 days of hire. Valid out-of-state license required for out-of-state residents. Spanish fluency a plus, but not required.
