Family Services
Dupage, IL
Volunteers
Many
family caregivers of older adults are reluctant to leave their loved one
alone, even for brief periods, which can lead to stress and depression.
You can help a family caregiver in your community by becoming a Senior
Respite Volunteer with the In-Home Senior Respite Program.
Respite volunteers provide social visits to an older adult so that family
caregiver can leave the home to take care of their many business and personal
needs. Respite volunteers may visit, play cards, work a puzzle, or watch
TV with an older adult. Family caregivers use this precious respite time
to run errands, have lunch with a friend, attend religious services, or
even take a nap.
Volunteers receive training and are matched with families who live in
their community. Volunteers provide a social visit only, and no hands-on
assistance is required. Volunteers can work alone, as a couple, or in
teams of family members, co-workers, or friends.

called Food for Progress. In Uganda, our Education Support Project, funded
by UNICEF, has been designed to build 5 primary schools and 5 teacher
housing units to assist internally displaced persons (IDPs) who are returning
to their communities. Our second project in Uganda is in conjunction with
the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), and will provide
local Ugandans with free HIV testing and counseling. In order to facilitate
thsi program, we are now recruiting volunteers for our Supported Volunteer
