The goal of the Health Service is to provide health education and interventions while helping students make informed decisions relating to health issues and concerns. The office is open to all registered students of Benedictine University. The hours are Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. during the academic year. Students may drop in at any time. All office visits are confidential. In the event of serious illness or injury, parents or guardian will be notified at the discretion of the staff.

  • Family practice physician on campus once a week
  • Allergy injections
  • Tetanus/diphtheria and TB test
  • Throat cultures
  • Mono tests
  • Variety of over the counter and prescription medications
  • Referral to specialty areas, both on and off campus
  • Health education resources
  • Consultations for personal, social, and emotional issues

Fees

There is no charge for undergraduate students. Graduate students will pay $10 per visit. A minimal fee for prescription medications will be charged. Students will be responsible for the cost of outside services.

 

Emergency

In the case of an emergencey please come to the Health Service if possible.When our staff is not available you should Dial 6666 to reach Public Safety from any campus phone. If it is a situation that requires immediate emergency response, you should dial 9-911 and give your exact location, then follow up with a call to Public Safety to notify them that you have requested emergency assistance. Local emergency rooms are: Edward Hospital at 2 S. Washington, Naperville or Good Samaritan Hospital at 3815 S. Highland Ave., Downers Grove.

Health Form

You received a health form as part of your admission packet. For your added convenience we have posted copies below that can be filled out online and printed. Health forms must be compeleted and returned to our office before the beginning of the semester. Please visit the immunization requirements page for more information. It is a good idea to make a copy of all personal records.
Important: There will be a late fee of $25, charged to your account, if this form is not completed and returned by October 1 (fall semester) and March 1 (spring semester). If there is any way we can help you with this process, please call us at (630) 829-6046 or e-mail us at studenthealth@ben.edu.

Wellness Education

The Health Service maintains a wide variety of brochures/pamphlets and videos on wellness related topics. If you are looking for information for personal use, class projects, or programming let us know. There is also a VCR available in our waiting room for viewing tapes throughout the day.

Self Care

Sometimes you may have a concern that can be managed in without an office visit. When this occurs, we offer the following services to assist you:

  • Telephone Consultation: If you have a question, need information or are unsure about a health issue, please call us at 630.829.6046 and speak with one of the nurses.
  • First Aid Kits: are provided in each of the residence halls. Your RA should be able to obtain first aid supplies for you. There will be no medication available.
  • Personal Health Kit: It is a good idea to bring a small supply of health care items to school with you for times when our office is not open. Good things to have on hand are: bandaids, pain relievers (tylenol or advil), decongestants and cough syrup.
