In January, 2003 we celebrated the success of Benedictine University alum and coach of the Oakland Raiders, Bill Callahan, when he led his team to the Super Bowl.  Bill Callahan, took over as the Oakland Raiders head coach in March of 2002. In his first year as a head coach, Callahan led the Raiders, the 2003 American Football Conference (AFC) champions and three-time defending Western Division champions, into a match up with the National Football Conference (NFC) Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl XXXVII. To commemorate this event, we went into the University  archives and retrieved some photos of Coach Callahan.

Bill Callahan was a three-year starter quarterback at Benedictine University (back when we were known as Illinois Benedictine College) from 1975-77.  Bill was a NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) honorable mention All-American in his final two seasons. Wearing his number 10 jersey, Bill poses with members of our 1975 football team.
