Library Displays
The library highlights
events of local, national, or global importance with displays of materials
from our various collections. These are the displays we prepared during
the Spring, 2003 semester:
- In January, we celebrated the
success of Benedictine University alum and coach of the Oakland Raiders, Bill
Callahan, when he lead his team to the Super Bowl. To commemorate this
event, we went into the University archives and retrieved some
photos of Coach Callahan from 1975-77 when he was a three-year starter
quarterback at Benedictine (back when we were known as Illinois Benedictine
College). We used the 4th floor display case to display these pictures along
with recent national news articles written about Bill Callahan's days on the
IBC football team.
- On February 1, the space shuttle
Columbia was lost during its re-entry into the earth's atmosphere. We
mourned the loss of the seven crew members with a 4th floor display of
official NASA photos and reports from our Federal Government Documents
collection.
Our March display focused on the
author, John Steinbeck. February 27th would have been his 101st birthday.
This event gave us an opportunity to display the library's Steinbeck manuscripts
from our Special Collections.
- In celebration of National Library
Week (April 6-12) faculty were asked to lend copies of books they had authored
for the April display. Twenty-four
faculty authors were featured in the display.
