Beginnings: the Lisle Campus
April, 1896
On April 1, 1896, the Abbey purchased the Morris Neff Farm near Lisle. On April 27, the sum of $6,152.00 was paid for the farm. On April 28, Brother Stanislaus Opava went to Lisle to take charge. He was joined the next day by Abbott John Nepomucene Jaeger and Brother Novice Placid Slejs. Adam Neff, son of the original owner, stayed on to work on the farm for a monthly salary of $20.00. The building, generally called "the stone house", is still in use today.
