The Blessing of the New Monastery
   

An entry dated July 18, 1916, in the Abbey Chronicle reports:

"Today our new monastery and seminary were blessed by the Most Re. George William Mundelein. Besides the Most Rev. Archbishop, the following were also present: The Most Rev. Bishop Leo Haid, O.S.B., who delivered the English sermon; the Most Rev. Bishop Joseph Mary Koudelka, who delivered the Czech sermon; the abbots Peter Engel of St. John's Collegeville, Minnesota, and Innocent Wolf, O.S.B., from Atchison, Kansas; and about four thousand people and many priests."

In this photograph, the white lines indicate the expansion of the building over the years. The far right section was built in 1901, the small middle section in 1908, the monastery wing at the far left completed in 1916.

The chapel section was completed in 1912 and was dedicated on September 5, 1913.
