The St. Procopius Abbey
Farm
One of the most interesting and least known feature of life at St. Procopius up until the early 1970s was the farming carried out by the Benedictine Fathers and Brothers. The approximately 365 acres of fertile land that surrouned the college campus produced food for day-to-day consumption by the monks, students, and faculty as well for as the motherhouse and academy of the Benedictine Sisters across the road. Abbey farm products were sold in nearby markets as well.

The Abbey farm resembled a small village. It included a carpenter shop, butcher shop, poultry buildings, hog pens, steer barn, and silos. |
