University Police Authority

Benedictine University Police draws its authority from the Illinois Private College Campus Police Act, which establishes authority for Private Colleges and Universities to create a police department.

Illinois Compiled Statutes - Ch. 110 ILCS 1020/1

Members of the campus police department shall have the powers of municipal peace officers and county sheriffs, including the power to make arrests under the circumstances prescribed in Section 107-2 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of 1963, as amended, for violations of state statutes, municipal or county ordinances. The members of such campus police department shall be persons who have successfully completed the Minimum Standards Basic Law Enforcement Training Course offered at a police training school established under the Illinois Police Training Act

Criminal Charges

Criminal Charges filed by Benedictine University Police area are heard in the DuPage County Circut Court in Wheaton, Illinois. Failure to appear for desiganted court dates will result in a Criminal Failure to Appear warrant being issued and or the revocation of bond.

Code of Conduct

In cases of violations of state statute, village ordinance or University policy, Benedictine University Police have two options. Benedictine University Police may in addition to and in lieu of criminal charges, refer violators to the Beneditine Code of Conduct. If referred to the Benedictine Code of Conduct, violator must comply with Notices to Appear to the Dean of Students. Failure to comply with the Dean of Students could result in strict academic sanctions and/or the pursuit of criminal charges.
