Dan and Ada Rice Center

The Rice Center Weight Room is located upstairs at the far west end of the building. An enclosed stereo sound-system allows users to tune in radio music or listen to their own tape/CD music while exercising. Users can enjoy a full-body workout with machine work and free weights, highlighted by the following equipment:

Upright Power Racks
Bench and Incline Press Equipment
Seated Bench Stations
Cable Crossover Machine
Power Lifting Equipment/Stations
Dumbbells from 10 to 100 lbs.
Hammer Strength Machines Circuit

The Rice Center Fitness Room is also located upstairs and is a distinct and separate facility from the weight room. Those users concentrating on a non-weight workout enjoy a quieter atmosphere and are not disturbed by noisy weight plates or intimidated by heavy-weight machines. TV viewing and radio music are available. A variety of machines offer numerous ways to improve cardiovascular fitness:

Freeclimber 4400-PT Stairmaster
True 750-E Elliptical Running Machines
True Recumbent Bike
Stairmaster Clubtrack 510 Treadmill
PreCor EFX-544 Elliptical Fitness Crosstrainer
Schwinn Windsprint Seated Bicycles

The weight and fitness rooms are always monitored by an attendant. Hours may vary. Please check the posted hours in the rooms themselves as the times for use can change frequently. All patrons should be prepared to identify themselves to the attendants as eligible users and should adhere to the posted rules/regulations at all times.

Attendants are responsible for the organization/cleanliness of the rooms, identification of eligible users, management of fitness equipment use and reporting any injuries/emergencies. Attendants are not personal trainers and are not employed to assist patrons with a workout or program.

Athletic teams use the weight room extensively, especially during the fall and spring semesters. The heaviest traffic time for student-athletes tends to be weekdays around the lunch hour and between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Other users are encouraged to use the weight and fitness rooms outside of these high-traffic periods.

The Rice Center weight room and fitness room are available for use by Benedictine students, university employees and their families, trustees, alumni, Rice Center members and Benedictine Religious.
