What it means to "Carry the Light"
Many centuries ago, St. Benedict taught his values and philosophies to young men from throughout Europe, and then sent them forth to share that knowledge so that they
might bring light into a world plunged into darkness. Today, Benedictine University continues to pass the light that was ignited more than 1,600 years ago.
Much like the young followers of St. Benedict, our students today are prepared to carry their own light into the world.
The mission and vision of Benedictine University continue to reflect our Catholic and Benedictine traditions. The light – the values, traditions and the spirit of Benedictine University – that was carried by its founders, is passed on anew to succeeding generations of students. This “passing of the light” provides the Benedictine University community with a sense of connection with the past and direction for the future.
Following are individuals who, in one way or another, have carried the light of Benedictine University. Click on the photos to read their story. Let us know how you have carried the light to be considered for future features.
