  7. What is the Benedictine Fund?

The Benedictine Fund is a program for soliciting ongoing support for Benedictine's programs and students. The funds donated by our alumni, friends and parents help to cover a portion of the true cost of a Benedictine education, making up the difference between tuition revenue and the actual expense. These funds are generally directed to the unrestricted fund (unless the donor requests the dollars to be put in a specific area) of the University relieving the burden on tuition and assisting with Benedictine's daily needs. In this way, we can help to keep tuition costs down and an invaluable Benedictine University education within the reach of those who want it.

For more information call Jill Poskin at (630) 829-6366 or e-mail jposkin@ben.edu.

  8. Why does my participation matter?

A gift of any amount, whether time, talent, or funds has an immediate and major impact on the University.  These gifts account for the participation rate that is of importance to the rankings that Benedictine receives from the U.S. News & World Report.  The higher the ranking that Benedictine receives will add value to your degree, and encourage others to want to support the University.

  9. Can I make a gift of stock?

Yes.  If you are interested in making a gift of stock, please contact Jason Leppin, Associate Director for Major, Corporate, and Planned Giving at: jleppin@ben.edu

  10. Can I designate where my gift will go?

Yes, you may designate your gift to a specific department or program of your choice.

$10,000 is the minimum gift required to establish an endowed scholarship.

  13. Do I need to let Benedictine know if I have included the Benedictine Fund in my will?

If you have decided to include Benedictine University in your will, please let us know.  We would welcome the opportunity to show our appreciation and assure that your plans and intentions are thoroughly understood and carried out.  If you are interested in making bequests and other planned gifts to the University, please contact Jason Leppin at jleppin@ben.edu

  14. How do I know if my employer would provide a matching gift?

Contact your HR department or whoever handles your company’s benefits to determine whether or not they will match your gift.

  15. How does the matching gift program work if my employer matches my gift?

Your Human Resources department will give you a form that you will need to complete and submit to the University along with your gift.  Once we receive the form, we will fill out our portion and send it to your company to collect the donation.

  16. I am a recent graduate and don’t have a lot of money to spare.  How can I support Benedictine?

Supporting Benedictine comes in many different forms.  No matter what the size of the gift, your participation is greatly appreciated and needed. Recent graduates serve as great mentors to current students.  Donating time and talent is a great way to give back to the University, that will influence current students.  Contact Jessica Stillo, Coordinator of Alumni Stewardship at jstillo@ben.edu, for more info on Recent Graduate events and opportunities.

  17. What is a deferred gift?

A deferred gift means that the donation will reach Benedictine at a later time.  An example of a deferred gift is leaving Benedictine in your will or estate plans.

  18. I would like to give Benedictine furniture, lab equipment, car, etc.  How would I go about doing this?

A gift in kind is a gift that may be one of personal property (other than real estate) or a donation of time, talent, and effort.  If you are interested in giving a gift in kind, please contact:  Catherine Wokas at cwokas@ben.edu.
