Thematic Elements
- The group of people makes explicit the Koinonia i.e., the community.
- The wheat field comes from
John 12:24,
which the Koinonia Retreat uses
as a principal image for the Paschal Mystery and living the Christian life. Its
plenitude represents the fruitfulness of the Christian life and growth of the community.
- The standard holding the cross reminds one of the “lifting up”
described in
John 3:14–15.
- The cross at the center of the standard is of a style often used in Benedictine art
and particularly in some of Benedictine University’s publications.
