"If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap.
If you want happiness for a day, go fishing.
If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune.
If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody."

Social & Community Dimension of Wellness
Community:
As part of our guiding mission, we state as an "academic community committed
to liberal arts and professional education distinguished and guided by its Roman Catholic tradition and
Benedictine heritage - the University prepares it's students for a lifetime as active, informed and responsible
citizens and leaders in the world Community."
What is community? Smith reports (http://www.infed.org/community/community.htm) it can be as weak as an attachment or as strong as a communion,
but it is the relationships and social networks that make community.
We grow our Benedictine University community spirit and model our commitment as we celebrate together (e.g., Opening, Day,
Founder's Day, Employee Recognition Day, Commencement),
demonstrate our responsible stewardship of the earth through campus beautification and recycling,
collaboratively work together, socialize and learn together (e.g., CMI roundtables, Faculty Colloquium),
and show our hospitality.
Volunteer Opportunities:
You might find one or more of the many university committees or task forces are the perfect fit for your talents and meets your
need to make a positive difference. Time donated for campus beautification efforts are valued and show our
dedication to responsible stewardship of the earth.
You are encouraged to demonstrate the Benedictine traditions of stewardship and
appreciation for living and working in a community.
Perhaps
you feel you are being pulled towards a different volunteer calling... below are some additional volunteer opportunities.
