Physical Dimension of Wellness: Health

Health:

The University both trains and offers health education services.

  • CPR/AED Certification and re-certification training is offered through the Office of Personnel Resources to University employees. Call ext. 6031 for more information.
  • The campus Health Service has a large collection of brochures/pamphlets and videos on a variety of wellness education topics. Employees can request information for personal use, classes, or programs. Call extension 6046.

Incentive Program:

Beyond the personal benefits associated with improved health, you are encouraged to participate in the (click) Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Illinois employee incentive program.

Self-Assess Health Status:

Physical and Clinical Measurements:

In order to accurately complete some of these self-assessments of risk, you must know your blood pressure, cholesterol (lipid) levels (i.e., total, LDL, HDL and triglycerides), and blood glucose/sugar levels, as well as height, weight, and waist circumference.

To encourage testing to improve the health of employees, the Nutrition and Exercise Physiology programs are offering the following programs to Benedictine University employees:

  • Free height, weight, BMI determination, and waist to hip ratio calculation. Employees can contact the Healthy Table nutrition education center at ext. 6518.
  • Reduced cost blood lipid tests and body composition testing taken on campus. Contact Craig Broeder (Director, Exercise Physiology Program) at ext. 6563 for a date and time.
  • Making Strides employee wellness program, summer 2009. Contact Dr. Catherine Arnold (Chair, Nutrition Department) at ext. 6534.
  • Healthier Body Challenge. Contact Dr. Craig Broeder (Director, Exercise Physiology Program) at ext. 6563
