Wellness Principles and Planning

Principles of Wellness Programming:

  1. In order to enhance value to employees and foster a life lived in balance, wellness programming should be designed to provide and promote opportunities that enhance wellness in all six dimensions of the wellness model.
  2. As part of an institution of higher learning, our wellness programming is based upon evidence-based principles.
  3. Funding will be secured through University funding, donations, and/or grants for continued programming.
  4. Accountability will be demonstrated through measurable outcomes of increased health of employees and comparable reduced modifiable healthcare expenditures.

2007-2010 Plans for Wellness Programming:

  • Establish an employee wellness team. Employees interested in joining this team should contact Catherine Arnold via e-mail at carnold@ben.edu.
  • Assess employee wants and needs for wellness programming, and then offer programs to meet the "demand."
  • Refine principles and plans following input from employees (e.g., survey, informal feedback, website responses) and team members.
  • Develop and maintain web site programming promotion around the six dimensions of wellness to provide opportunities and resources for all dimensions.
  • Expand content of web site to provide brief evidence-based introductions to each of the six dimensions of wellness.
  • Submit funding requests to University. Search and apply for appropriate grant funding. Solicit donations from corporate sponsors for events, as appropriate.
  • Determine, measure, analyze, and report wellness dashboard measures. Compare results longitudinally.
    • Track participation/usage rates.
    • Evaluate success of wellness program (i.e., has the health risk declined?). Provide access for measurement of employee health status (e.g., Healthy Table, Exercise Physiology program).
    • Evaluate satisfaction with wellness programming.
    • Analysis of modifiable healthcare expendidures.
