Advising Appointments

Who are the advisors?

Our team of professional academic advisors is here to assist you in getting the most out of your college experience. You advisor will help you:

  • Understand university policies and requirements
  • Create a schedule consistent with your academic abilities and interests
  • Define and develop realistic goals
  • Match you with appropriate campus resources
  • Monitor your academic progress

Why do I need to meet with my advisor?

Advisors will help assist you in creating a course of action for your academic, personal, and professional goals. You will meet with your academic advisor at least once a semester to discuss your current term, formulate upcoming goals, and review the schedule for the upcoming semester. Your advisor can also assist you throughout the semester if you are having any difficulties with your classes, time-management, or the transition to college life.

How do I prepare for my advising appointment?

In order to get the most out of your advising appointment, we suggest you prepare by taking the following steps:

  • Review the course schedule and select courses of interest
  • Clarify your goals for the upcoming semester
  • Write down any questions or concerns
  • Become knowledgeable about your program requirements
  • Become familiar with electronic resources (MyBenU, email, D2L)
  • Provide your advisor with updated transcript
