Benedictine University receives grant to develop arboretum
on 108-acre campus
The founders of Benedictine University adhered to the belief
that each person should be a responsible steward of all living
things. A grant from the DuPage Community Foundation will help
Benedictine University continue to live that belief.
Benedictine University has received a $7,500 grant from the DuPage
Community Foundation for trees and seedling to develop an on-campus
arboretum. Benedictine University will consult with officials
from the Morton Arboretum in Lisle to determine which trees would
be most appropriate to plant on the University's 108-acre campus.
"We want to make the University a pleasant place to come
and relax, not only for our students, but also for the residents
of Lisle and our neighboring villages," said Benedictine
University President William Carroll. "The campus arboretum
would also be a useful teaching tool."
The arboretum would break down pollutants before they enter the
watershed, provide a natural habitat for wildlife, provide an
outdoor classroom and laboratory, demonstrate how green space
can be incorporated into the corporate culture, and provide a
place of refuge and respite.
