Coal Ben

In 2007, Benedictine University partnered with DLR Architects and Reed Construction to convert the 5,000 square foot old storage facility into a student café and lounge.  The renovations included a complete interior demolition and reconstruction.  The space however, retains its original coal storage atmosphere of exposed masonry and concrete flooring.

One side is a pub-like restaurant with four TV screens and a bar/coffee shop connected to a large outdoor patio with a capacity to entertain 100 people. The other side is an open seating area with a giant projection screen that can accommodate up to 80 people, perfect for watching the next big game.
