Dietetics Programs

The curricula for our Benedictine University Didactic Program in Nutrition and Dietetics (DPD) and Dietetic Internship program have been granted accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, 120 South Riverside Plaza, Suite 2000, Chicago, Illinois 60606-6995, 312/899-0040. Our most recent accreditation visit was in 2010, and the program was awarded accreditation through 2020. Outcomes are available upon request.

The United States Department of Education recognizes ACEND as a Title IV gatekeeper. Per ACEND:

"This recognition affirms that ACEND meets national standards and is a reliable authority on the quality of nutrition and dietetics education programs" (

Benedictine University is privileged to welcome Dawn Bounds, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Community, Systems and Mental Health Nursing at the Rush University College of Nursing, as the speaker for the Fall 2016 Community Symposium.  

Dr. Bounds will discuss adolescent behaviors related to threats and disorders, challenges, trauma and its effect on the brain, and promoting resilience. 

Her research interests include commercial sexual exploitation, the psycho-neuro-immunological impact of complex trauma and the link between trauma and juvenile justice. 

Dr. Bounds is also a certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, author and co-project director of the Dedicated African-American Dad Study, and has presented widely on topics of mental health, equity and commercial sexual exploitation.
