Have family and friends who want to see you graduate? Here are some answers to some common questions to help your guests make necessary preparations.

 
Which events are guests permitted to attend?

Guests can attend the Commencement Convocation ceremony and the Interfaith Baccalaureate Convocation.

There is open seating for all Commencement Convocations and it is a first come first serve basis. 

Due to the intimate nature of the Interfaith Baccalaureate Convocation (Hooding Ceremony) we ask that students limit their guests to a total of six (6).

Are tickets needed for the Commencement Convocation ceremony?

Tickets are not needed for the Commencement Convocation ceremony.

What time should guests arrive for the Commencement Convocation ceremony?

The doors will open 90 minutes before the start of the ceremony. Guests arriving after the ceremony begins may be required to view the ceremony on a closed-circuit TV in the Goodwin Hall Auditorium.

Does the Commencement Convocation ceremony take place outdoors?

The ceremony for associate and bachelor’s degree recipients is held outdoors in the Benedictine University Sports-Complex. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be relocated to the Rice Center.

The ceremony for master’s and doctoral students is held indoors in the Rice Center. 

All post-ceremony receptions will take place outdoors in the Campus Quad, weather permitting.

Is there an indoor/alternate viewing location for the Commencement Convocation ceremony?

Yes. Guests can view the ceremony on a closed-circuit TV in the Goodwin Hall Auditorium or by visiting ben.edu and clicking on the link to a livestream of the event.

Can one view the Commencement Convocation ceremony off campus?

Yes. A link to a livestream of the Commencement Convocation will be posted on the Benedictine University homepage at ben.edu.

Where can guests find parking?
Campus parking facilities will be available. Parking facility locations can be found on the campus map.
Is there assigned or reserved seating?

No. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Is there special seating for guests who are handicapped or hearing impaired?

Yes. Please identify your need ahead of time by contacting Linda D. Owens, at lowens@ben.edu or (630) 829-6123. Otherwise, you may address your seating needs at Commencement with an usher at the door. Please keep in mind that seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. An interpreter will be available for the hearing impaired at the event.

How long will the Commencement Convocation ceremony last?

Between 1.5 to 2 hours.

Is there a reception afterwards?

Yes. A reception will be held on the Campus Quad after the Commencement Convocation ceremony concludes.

Are children allowed?

Yes.

Are guests allowed to take pictures or record video at the ceremony?

Yes. Both photography and videography is encouraged. However, we request that you do not go beyond the white cord when coming forward to take pictures. A professional photographer will photograph each of the graduates receiving his or her degree and a professional video of the ceremony will also be recorded and made available for sale.

Are official photos and video of the ceremony available for purchase?
