Emerging Scholars Learning Communities

You are invited to join Benedictine University's

Would you like to join a group of select students who are serious about achieving success academically and professionally? Would you like to be eligible for special benefits such as free books, off-campus learning experiences, and individualized tutoring to help you strengthen your writing skills? If so, consider joining Benedictine University's Emerging Scholars Learning Community Program.

Students accepted into the Emerging Scholars Learning Community Program will take two classes that will count towards graduation requirements: WRIT 101: Person in Community Writing Colloquium (a required course for all freshmen), and a second class that fulfills a general education requirement. Co-enrollment in both classes is required for eligibility.

To support and enhance your learning, as a member of the Emerging Scholars Learning Community Program you will:

  • receive all books required for the Emerging Scholars Learning Community classes at no cost.
  • participate in a pre-class orientation program designed to give your college career a head start.
  • receive intensive writing tutoring that is individualized to meet your needs and to help you develop stronger writing skills.
  • work with a mentor to enhance your college preparedness and to increase your level of academic success.
  • participate in unique off-campus learning experiences such as site visits to local museums, theaters, community centers, or businesses (all costs covered by the program).
