To kick off National Nutrition Month, Nutrition adjunct faculty member Jodie Shield, MED, RDN, LDN, will be the featured author at the March 6th Benedictine University Library Faculty Authors event. Co-author (with Nutrition adjunct faculty member, Mary Catherine Mullen, MS, RDN, LDN) of the book, Healthy Eating, Healthy Weight for Kids and Teens, Ms. Shield will discuss practical advice for today’s parents on healthy eating for kids. She will also provide an insider perspective on writing for consumers, the self-publishing process vs. traditional publishing models, and book publicity in a social media age.
Ms. Shield is an active blogger and has been a noted consultant and spokesperson in the field of nutrition for three decades. A former national media spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, she is Founder and President of Healthy Eating for Families Inc., a nutrition communications consulting company based in Chicago. She has authored over 300 consumer and professional articles, written and developed consumer education materials and programs, and is currently a contributing editor for Food and Nutrition Magazine and family nutrition expert for Sears Fit Studio.
The event will take place on Thursday, March 6, from 4:15-5:15 pm in the Library 2nd floor “IdeaLounge.” Attendees will have a chance to win a copy of the featured book, participate in Q&A with the author, and enjoy coffee, tea, and light refreshments.
The Library will provide a student sign-in sheet to document student attendance, if instructors wish to offer extra credit and encourage students to attend. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to learn more about the work of another distinguished Benedictine University faculty author!
