The Benedictine University Library is pleased to introduce the newest addition to our team: Circulation Manager Michael Diakoumis.
Michael enlisted in the US Army immediately after graduating high school. He served on active duty for four years as an infantryman with the 1st Ranger Battalion. He deployed once in support of OIF (Operation Iraqi Freedom) and twice in support of OEF (Operation Enduring Freedom). After being honorably discharged, Michael earned his B.A. in History from Benedictine University in 2014.
As Circulation Manager, Michael supervises a team of student employees in the maintenance and distribution of library materials. He keeps in contact with other I-Share libraries in order to speedily resolve circulation inquiries for students, faculty and staff. “I thoroughly enjoy working in an academic setting,” Michael observed. “I’m eager to go to work in the morning knowing that I will assist other students in achieving their academic goals. In the military, I enjoyed leading and training small teams. As the new Circulation Manager, I have been given the opportunity to train and work with an already seasoned team.”
Going forward, Michael plans to focus on student outreach. As a former BenU student himself, he understands the student perspective. “Many students are unaware of the variety of services we offer in the lower level of the library,” he explained. “I hope to change that as soon as possible.”
Outside of work, Michael enjoys spending time with his wife and two dogs.
